Sprout City Farms Year End Report and Request to Support

Posted on November 4, 2022November 11, 2022 by Jane

Hello Community Members,

News From Around the Farm

  • We had such an amazing season! Thank you to everyone who helped make our 2022 growing season so successful from volunteers to investors to CSA members!  Our farm crews worked so hard this year against the super hot sun and over abundance of pill bugs.  Farmers Lauren, Grace Ann, Jess, Nia, Myranda, Oli, and Anna were the ones who made it all possible!

  • We need your leaves! 🍂 Bring your leaves to the Denver Green School Community Farm!  As you rake the leaves in your yard this fall, think about what wonderful compost and mulch they can make to build soil at your friendly neighborhood farm.  Bags can be dropped at the farm gate in the SE corner of the schoolyard (if you come on the weekend, you can carefully drive across the playground to drop bags at the farm). You can get FREE paper bags from ACE here.

Food Access

  • Many of the vegetables went towards our various Food Access programs.

    • 283 pounds of food went to the Denver Green School Cafeteria

    • 789 pounds of food went to the Food Pantry at Denver Green School in partnership with the Food Bank of the Rockies.

    • 2511 pounds went towards Food Access Shares (No-cost shares for WIC, SNAP, and Solidarity members)

    • 251 pounds of food were sold at the Farm Stands at Denver Green School!

Other Ways to Get Involved and Support Us!

  • The arrival of autumn means that end-of-year giving is just around the corner!

Sprout City Farms has been growing (in all senses of the word), and we want your help to sustain our impact!  We want to sustain this growth while staying rooted in our community. Our expansion in recent years has been largely funded by grant opportunities, especially COVID-19 emergency relief funds that are drying up. These funds particularly made it possible for us to expand our food access work, as we now distribute 55% of our harvest to food access programs (no-cost CSA shares, donation-based farm stands, Farm-to-Cafeteria programs, and food pantry donations). In 2021, we doubled the size of our staff, and 2022 is the first year that we have been able to pay our farm interns!

  1. This year, we have a goal to raise $6,000 on Colorado Gives Day. Starting in November, you can even get ahead of the game by scheduling your Colorado Gives Day donation in advance!

  1. For more than one-time support, monthly donations are the most reliable form of support and sustain us all year round. Monthly donors, aka Cultivators, receive special bonuses such as a quarterly newsletter with behind-the-scenes information about SCF 🧺, early ticket sales 🎟️ for our annual Night on the Farm event, early access to CSA share purchases 🍏, and Cultivator-exclusive events throughout the year.

***Our goal is to have at least 5 new monthly Cultivators support with $20 a month by the end of 2022!  Will you be one of them? Sign up here!
