The Denver DA’s Office is urging you to be aware of text messages mimicking a court summons for unpaid tolls.
The scam is targeting Denver residents in hopes of stealing their personal and financial information. It’s important that people do not scan the QR code in the text messages. Those who do could be taken to a fraudulent site or have their phones or computers compromised.
The scam mimics a court summons (see below), instructing people to appear in court for failing to pay a toll and warning that they face arrest or other penalties if they don’t respond. The summons says you can avoid going to court by scanning the QR code. DO NOT SCAN THIS.
To report a scam, contact our office at 720-913-9179, or you can contact the Colorado Attorney General’s Office at stopfraudcolorado.gov.
