Crimes and Stats
- Burglaries are split 50:50 between residential and business
- Again, a reminder to keep overhead garage doors and doors from the garage to the house closed and locked. This past month with warmer weather the number of burglaries linked to open doors increased to 53%.
- Our precinct, 322 (Alameda to Evans and Colorado to Quebec), showed a three-year average increase in crimes against persons, up 8.2% from 134 to 145 which were almost exclusively domestic violence or between known parties. Property crimes keep coming down, 32.5%. Our Precinct, 322, has seen a three-year average increase in crimes against persons attributable to almost exclusively from domestic violence and acts between know parties. Property crime is down 32.5% which is what matters most to use home owners. Public crime is up 30.2% which is not bad because it reflects more active enforcement of drug, alcohol and traffic incidents.
- I track every reported incident in Winston Downs, and as I keep repeating, we are a very low crime community. Troubling, though, have been a number of recent reports of fighting and assaults at the Denver Green School.
- District 3’s current focus is on curtailing retail theft, road rage trouble at the parks, especially Bible Park. Road rage is tied to speeding and street racing. The Traffic Department weekly monitors social media to see where road racers are intending to gather and cuts them off at the meeting sites.
- Abandoned vehicles continue to be an issue, but enforcement which is handled by the Sheriff’s Department is limited to just two officers. They have recently had three rounds of enforcement where they towed over 50 vehicles each time.
- Last month I mentioned DATT, the Denver Auto Theft Investigation Team, and their success in recovering stolen vehicles. I recently heard that the recovery rate is 93%. There were a couple incidents in Winston Downs and those vehicles were recovered. Remember to lock your car and never leave valuables visible. And don’t hang your garage door opener on the sun visor, it is the key to your house.
- A key tool for auto recovery has been the FLOCK company’s LPR (license plate reader) camera system that is on a one-year trial period throughout the city. While supported by the Mayor, City Council voted not to extend the program for privacy fears that the data, despite legal restrictions to is use, might be commandeered by the Federal Government for anti-sanctuary city enforcement. Another case of supporting illegal aliens at the expense of citizens.
