DENVER – Following its annual budget retreat, the Denver City Council has formally sent a letter to Mayor Mike Johnston outlining its key priorities for the city’s 2026 budget. The recommendations reflect the Council’s continued commitment to advancing an equitable, sustainable, and community-centered city government, even in the face of tightening fiscal conditions.
The letter identifies several pressing focus areas, including public safety, housing stability, infrastructure, climate response, and support for youth, families, and older adults. The proposals are intended to guide the Mayor’s upcoming budget draft, which is due later this year.
“Our budget decisions must reflect the values of the people we serve,” said Council President Amanda P. Sandoval. “Even in a lean budget year, we believe the city can and must invest in the programs and services that make Denver safer, healthier, and more resilient. This letter outlines our shared priorities and extends a clear invitation to collaborate with the mayor’s administration in making those tough decisions.”
“Each council member loves the city and its people, and this budget letter advocates for the resources the city agencies need to continue operating to provide the programs and services expected by the people of Denver.”, said Council President Pro-tempore Diana Romero Campbell, “We look forward to working with the Mayor and city leadership to develop the budget in these challenging fiscal times.”
