Candidate Debates- City Council and Mayor Elections 2023
As you know, Denver elects a new Mayor this year and District 5 Council position (our neighborhood will fall totally under District 5 effective July 2023). It is vital to our city and neighborhood to be aware of who is running and to vote. In addition, there will be two “at large” City Council members to be elected. Winston Downs registered voters will be able to vote for three council representatives this year! Municipal ballots will be mailed in March.
Winston Downs is in City Council District 5. Two candidates are running for the council seat. Incumbent,Amanda Sawyer and Mike Hughes You can access their campaign websites by clicking on the candidate name.
Two Councilpersons-at-Large positions are also in the running
Denver has two “at-large” councilpersons which are open for all Denver voters to decide. Both current position holders are now termed out (Robin Kneich & Debbie Ortega) Y
Mayoral Debates & Candidates
Denver’s current mayor, Michael Hancock, is termed out after 12 years, so he cannot run again. There are seventeen (17) candidates qualified to have their names printed on the ballot, and four write-in candidates have indicated they are running. CLICK HERE for Denverite published list of who is running. Denver will send out ballots starting March 13; Election Day is April 4 with an unprecedented 17 candidates on the ballot. In a field of 17, no one candidate has emerged as the front-runner in the 2023 race for mayor. We will not know who our mayoral finalists are until the results of the April 4 election has been confirmed and there will be a runoff election. The runoff vote is on June 6.

So mark your calendars and be sure to show up at the Eisenhower Chapel on Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. to hear and ask questions of the two mayoral finalists. LUN is hosting this event to allow for a deeper understanding of the positions, intended policies and actions proposed by the two mayoral finalists.
