| DOTI to Collaborate with Community to Demonstrate Safety Improvements on Stretch of Alameda Avenue
Denver – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is moving forward with plans to improve safety along a stretch of East Alameda Avenue, implementing a temporary demonstration project to inform future, permanent safety enhancements. The demonstration will test a full lane-repurposing option, bringing a portion of East Alameda between Franklin and Lincoln Streets down to one travel lane in each direction, with dedicated space for left turn pockets. DOTI will then measure speeds, volumes, queuing, diversion, crashes, and comfort, among potentially other things, to apply the findings to a final design. DOTI is convening a working group made up of neighborhood and business representatives to iron out additional details of the demonstration, including what stretch of East Alameda Ave will be chosen for the temporary demonstration and to provide feedback on how DOTI will measure success. DOTI will reengage the general public shortly after the working group meeting and as the project is evaluated. DOTI will implement the following permanent safety improvements regardless of the final design for East Alameda:
