Expired License plate enforcement Nov 1 to Nov 30

Denver Police to Conduct Targeted Enforcement of Expired Vehicle Registrations and Temporary License Plates Throughout November
Vehicle Owners Encouraged to Register Vehicles or Renew Registrations Now Denver –

– For a one-month period beginning on November 1 and ending November 30, 2024, the Denver Police Department will conduct targeted enforcement of expired vehicle registration and expired temporary license plate violations. This special enforcement, similar to the one conducted in July, provides DPD officers the opportunity to address and take action on the community’s vocalized frustrations over drivers with expired license plate tags and expired temporary plates.

DPD encourages anyone who has not registered their vehicle to do so immediately to avoid the $95 fine from a Denver Municipal Code citation on top of registration/renewal costs. According to Denver Motor Vehicle, registration of newly purchased or acquired vehicles must be done in-person at DMV offices, and registration renewals must be done online or at a kiosk. Vehicle owners are reminded that while vehicle registrations have a 30-day grace period after expiration, temporary license plates do not have a grace period after expiration.

For more information about registering or renewing the registration for a vehicle, locating a branch and kiosk, utilizing online services and more, please visit the denvergov.org/dmv.

To allow for enforcement of expired vehicle registrations and expired temporary license plates during this one-month period, the Denver Police Department is temporarily exercising a clause in its low-level traffic stops policy. Outside this special enforcement period, DPD officers may still stop drivers who have expired plates or temporary plates if there are additional concerns. Also, missing license plates remain a priority for the Denver Police Department and do not fall within the low-level traffic stop policy.

Our Mission: Preventing crime and increasing public trust while honoring the responsibilities granted to us by those we serve, with continued focus on partnerships, learning, and innovation.
