Denver Police found that a man had been shot and killed in a Denver cemetery on Saturday (February 24) afternoon. The identity was later released, confirming that the victim was a 16-year-old boy.
Denver officers responded to a call of a discovered body in the Fairmount Cemetery off of South Quebec Street and East Alameda Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers found the slain teenager on the grounds.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner Wednesday identified the victim as 16-year-old Elias Garcia Tinajero, according to a press release. The teen was said to have been shot multiple times. “He was only 16 with a full life ahead of him,” Tinajero’s cousin said in the family’s GoFundMe, amassing nearly $3,000 in two days.
The death was ruled a homicide. Police noted that investigation is underway, but a suspect has yet to be identified.
