The Winston Downs Community Association wants to alert you to a recent spate of crime in our neighborhood and surrounding area and provide you with some additional tips to help you stay safe. These are extraordinary times. Historically, economic downturns are associated with increases in crime. The COVID outbreak is no exception and we need to take extra precautions to stay safe.
There have been several recent crimes in and around our neighborhood. On May 30, there was a homicide on the steps leading from the cul-de-sac on S. Oneida Street to Leetsdale. The victim has not been identified. We have requested additional lighting and safety measures from Denver City Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer’s office to help improve safety on that staircase. Most recently, on June 19 there was a series of carjacking incidents in Southeast Denver with one on Fairmount Drive. Look for more information on those incidents in a follow-up email. There also have been several thefts and other property crimes reported in May and June.
