This past Saturday, Give5 joined hands with the Food Bank of the Rockies to make sure our neighbors have enough to eat. Together, we packed 807 boxes, totaling 28,084 pounds of food—enough to provide 23,403 meals to families and individuals across our community. Every box packed, every meal shared, represents the compassion and commitment of people like you. Thank you for showing up, giving your time, and reminding us what true community looks like.
But today, that sense of community is more important than ever.
As the federal government shutdown continues, hundreds of thousands of Coloradans may lose access to SNAP benefits starting November 1—including an estimated 100,000 Denver residents, nearly half of them children. CBS Colorado reports that food banks across the state are already bracing for a surge in need.
SNAP typically provides nine meals for every one meal that food banks distribute. When those benefits are delayed or halted, the strain on local organizations grows exponentially—and families who were already struggling will have even fewer options.
That’s why your generosity, your time, and your willingness to help are more critical now than ever before. Whether you donate, volunteer, organize, or simply check on a neighbor, you become part of the safety net that keeps our community strong.
Ways You Can Make a Difference—Right Now. Even small actions can have a big impact:
-
Support local mutual aid funds
-
Organize a food drive or pantry for your neighborhood, school, or workplace
-
Check on neighbors, especially those who are elderly, disabled, or caring for children
-
Share information to connect people to resources
Every act of kindness counts. In this time of uncertainty, your support ensures that families still have meals on their tables, children still have food at school, and our community continues to show up for each other.
