Denver has added a number of roundabouts, especially in Lowry. Here’s a simple guide on using roundabouts that might be helpful as a reminder or just new information!
Lowry United Neighbors/LUN Pedestrian, Bicycle and Traffic Safety committee has been working with Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) to increase the safety of the Yosemite and Lowry Boulevard roundabout. The changes designed by DOTI were installed in June 2022, and will make it safer to enter and exit the roundabout. Please review this information from Denver DOTI.
Protocol in a Roundabout
Entering
When entering the roundabout, yield to traffic already navigating it. When a safe gap is available, merge into roundabout traffic. As you travel the roundabout, pay attention to signage and merging vehicles.
In the roundabout, you are allowed the right-of-way, but pay attention to inexperienced roundabout travelers.
Exiting
Remember if you are exiting the roundabout at the first exit, then use the outside/right lane. If you are going straight through, or taking the third exit, use the left, inside lane as you enter the roundabout, and then you can exit from that lane at any time without the need to get back in the right lane. The speed limit remains at 15 mph.
