FREE SEEDS
The Denver rep for Burpee Seeds has free seeds–flowers, vegetables, and herbs–available for community groups and community gardeners. These are this year’s seeds, and now is the perfect time for starting them indoors before moving them outdoors next month. If any groups or individuals in your neighborhood would like free seeds, please send an email to Ben Palen at benpalen@yahoo.com. You should let Ben know what kinds of seeds you want and the best way of getting them to you; quantities of some seeds may be limited. The seeds will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
AUTO THEFT
Auto theft is on the rise in Denver. The Denver Police Department (DPD) advises that “approximately 2,345 vehicles were reported stolen [between January 1 and March 15, 2021], compared to 956 during the same period in 2020 – a 145% increase.”
DPD has increased its high-visibility patrols to deter theft, but has prevention tips for residents:
- Lock car doors and roll up windows
- Remove keys, fobs, and valet keys
- Park in secure garages when possible
- Never leave the vehicle running and unattended (puffing)
- Utilize an anti-theft device, such as a car alarm and/or steering wheel lock
- Report suspicious behavior
The five most stolen vehicles in Denver currently are the Chevrolet Silverado, Kia Optima, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Ford F250. All vehicle owners, however, should be vigilant and proactive.
