State and BNSF Reach Pending Agreement to Deliver Joint Service Passenger Rail from Denver to Fort Collins with No New Taxes |
| Last week, Lisa Kaufmann and the Joint Service Executive Committee announced an agreement with Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad to provide passenger rail service from Denver to Fort Collins. For years, Coloradans in Northern Colorado have paid taxes for RTD FastTracks with no passenger rail service to show for it, but this historic agreement changes the game. Delivering twice the service at half the cost previously expected based on previous studies, this agreement will provide 3 round trips daily between Denver and Fort Collins, without any new taxes.
By working together the State, RTD, and the Front Range Passenger Rail District are able to pool resources and expertise to deliver high-quality service at a lower cost, finally fulfilling the promise to voters made over 2 decades ago. The agreement with BNSF to be the one operator to run service on this route will create a more efficient and lower cost way to deliver passenger rail to Northern Colorado. |
