Denver Green School/DGS is in the process of installing a new HVAC system which includes the first-ever AC system and a fix to the unreliable heating system. These changes improve the learning environment for the students at DGS.
The HVAC system requires a new transformer to manage the needed electrical power. HPM Contracting is the HVAC project management. Xcel’s role is to connect the power to new transformers. Xcel was planning to include upgrades to a main transformer for our homes as well. WD needs the upgrades due to aging equipment that is struggling to meet current electric needs.
Unfortunately, the electrical outage planned for Tuesday July 25 was abruptly canceled without notice to residents until WDCA contacted Xcel about why power was still on at 930am. Xcel indicated it had canceled the project due to neighborhood pressure — “it was too hot (100 deg) for homes to be without electricity”. Xcel Customer Relations apologized profusely for failure to notify the residents. If any purchased dry ice or had mileage for transporting food elsewhere, you may file a claim with Xcel for these expenses. Xcel Claims Application. MN- WI-1 is the link for the claims application. If you purchased a generator, Xcel may consider it if there are health issues or you normally work from home.
The team handling the HVAC project is contractually bound to have this completed for school reopening this month, so when this outage is rescheduled, we urge all to endure the outage so DGS will have reliable HVAC, and our own infrastructure can be updated to avoid unplanned outages. Yes, it may be inconvenient now, but some parts of the neighborhood have endured multiple unplanned outages due to aging equipment.
Nice to find this on Thursday afternoon
I could care less if the school gets there ac on time
Chuck, Xcel notified impacted homes on WEDNESDAY at 1030am-which is 2 day notice. As the eNews says: NOT ALL HOMES are impacted. Regret you feel this way about the school and needed building upgrades. The school was built in 1960 and has had few improvements since then.
Hope you will appreciate that the homes who are impacted have endured numerous unplanned outages in recent couple of years and this upgrade will benefit residents within Winston Downs as well. Xcel is not the project management team. They are a provider to that team to implement the correct wiring connecting to Xcel. If you are just learning of this through our eNews, your home may not be impacted.
What is the best way to provide Xcel feedback on their communication? It seems like they have other channels available other than an unidentified robo phone call.
Fortunately, Chuck, there are enough kind people in the neighborhood to care about the school and the fact that it needs an upgrade.
Chuck, Xcel was asked to do Robo calls because neither the contractor nor the school had means to do that. WDCA has suggested that Xcel place an identifier name on those types of calls for future. Interesting that no one else has ever asked apparently. Local customer relations is looking into it. Phone is the only thing they have common files for customers, so phone is primary. I appreciate they can at least do that for planned outages. AND BEST NEWS is our outage ended at 1230p v. 6p!
WDCA noticed same issue with unidentified robo calls. We have actually visited with Corporate and the Colorado community relations management to include identifier on their calls. It’s not rocket science to add that in, right!? Some of the issues related to this particular project were truly unforeseen circumstances, but when project cancelled Tuesday, we had to ask them to notify customers that project was canceled. Complaints were duly noted and documented in writing to Xcel.
